Best Sunsets around
the World
Whether you’re relaxing in your backyard, the local beach, or
traveling around the world, you’ll want to pay special attention to the
sunset. It’s a magical time. Here are
some of the choices for travellers around the world:
Gulf of Mexico, Florida
If you live in Florida long
enough and watch enough sunsets on the Gulf of Mexico,
you learn an important trick. When the sun sets and all the tourists get up to
leave, stop and look to the east behind you. If you are lucky, great clusters
of cumulus clouds will reflect light from the sun below the horizon, often
setting off explosions of color.
Santorini, Greece
It has been said many times that the sunset of the Greek island Santorini is where one can experience the most beautiful
sunset. Expect to see packs of tourists
parking on one of the many white-washed roof tops hoping to catch the best view
and take photographs of bright, pink sinking suns.
Phuket, Thailand
One of the more spectacular sunsets can be found on the beach of Ao
Patong in Phuket, Thailand. The vibrant colours hit the landscape with a yellowy-orange and deep
red hue.
Sri Lanka
The verandah of the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo,
Sri Lanka, faces directly
out west over the Indian Ocean. This grand
hotel, with its antique white-jacketed waiters was built in the 1800s, but its
shabby colonial architecture has been left untouched since then. Make sure you
get there by 7pm and order a glass of arrack (a sweet whisky-like spirit made
from distilled coconut toddy) as you watch the disappearing sun.
Scottsdale, Arizona
Set amidst flowering cactus and breathtaking scenery and framed
against the majestic McDowell
Mountain, Hyatt
Regency Gainey Ranch is the place to watch a
magnificent sunset, especially in April, when the skies tend to be at their
clearest.
